The IP Paralegal will assist Magnera’s attorneys in managing and protecting the company's intellectual property assets, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets. This role involves conducting research, assisting to draft IP-related documents, liaising between the technical teams and outside IP counsel, managing IP portfolios, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
· Assist with the preparation and filing of patent and trademark applications.
· Assist with conducting trademark and patent searches to ensure uniqueness of names or ideas.
· Manage and maintain global intellectual property portfolio.
· Coordinate with company innovation and R&D personnel to gather required documentation and information for filings.
· Assist in drafting and reviewing legal documents and correspondence related to intellectual property.
· Manage the legal billing for the Company to include drafting and securing engagement letters, reviewing, coding and processing invoices from outside counsel, and working with Accounting to collect billing information.
· Monitor deadlines and maintain IP docketing systems to ensure timely filings.
· Manage the invention disclosure process for the company’s inventors.
· Manage the inventor compensation process, as required by certain jurisdictions.
· Facilitate the budget and forecasting processes for IP outside counsel.
· Conduct research and analyze legal issues related to intellectual property.
· Provide status reports to the Legal team and innovation and R&D teams on the progress of IP matters
· Communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the IP prosecution and maintenance process.
· Prepare and maintain IP presentations for internal stakeholders.
· Work with the Legal team to ensure appropriate confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements are in place to protect the company’s IP.
· Compose routine and confidential correspondence, using excellent written communication skills.
· Prepare, edit and proof compliance reports and presentations.
· Maintain a professional attitude and demeanor at all times.
· Perform other duties as assigned, some of which may be quasi-administrative in nature
Experience – 3+ years of experience working in an IP law firm or corporate legal or IP department required.
Skills - Good understanding of IP laws and regulations required. Familiarity with application and filing process for patents and trademarks. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to provide clarity on complex lP topics. Excellent organization and multitasking skills. High attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. SAP experience a plus.
Education – Minimum Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in applied law or related field. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
