Responsibilities

The EH&S Coordinator will support Environmental, Health, Safety and Security programs. Facilitates and supports relevant training, engagement, stewardship, sustainability, key metrics, and compliance activities for the site.  Partners with site leadership in creating an organizational culture that places a high emphasis on safety beliefs, values, and attitudes.

  • Develop and oversee implementation of actions to facilitate a strong safety culture through high leadership and employee engagement.
  • Provide guidance and support/coach facility leadership on safety, health and environmental aspects of operations.
  • Supports and investigates situations in which line/equipment stoppage occurs due to perceived, imminent safety risk.
  • Completes responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Actively leads risk assessment activities for their area of responsibility by driving prioritized corrective and preventative actions to eliminate/reduce environmental, health or safety risks.
  • Lead all required meetings with safety (i.e. Pre-shift, Department Change Management, General communication, Town Hall, etc.).
  • Completes incident investigations, root cause analysis and implements corrective actions accordingly in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Motivates and coaches employees through good communication and frequent performance feedback. Identifies and coordinates additional training as needed.
  • Communicate identified or reported EHS issues to the EHS&S Supervisor and assist in resolution.
  • Champion employee empowerment to identify and address safety concerns, and generate new ideas related to safety and health.
  • Familiarity with ISO procedures, that support Environmental and Safety best practices.
  • Promote and participate in employee involvement programs such as project teams, committees, and internal training.
  • Participate in plant and/or department level EHS audits, self-assessments and inspections.
  • Assist in maintaining the sites Safety Data Sheet (SDS) system.
  • Maintain availability of labeling for chemicals in the plant.
  • Follow up on inspection recommendations and verify completion.
  • Responsible for completing inspections on a monthly, quarterly, semi- annual and yearly basis and coordinating corrective actions of any deficiencies noted for the following: Emergency Lighting - Emergency Exits - Fire Extinguishers JOB DESCRIPTION - Fire Doors - Eye Wash Stations - Ladders - Plant PPE
  • Develop, create, and deliver safety training to employees as required.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and response activities.
  • Participate in defining safety training requirements for employees.
  • Conduct safety training as needed.
  • Participate in internal and external inspections of the facility to assess and ensure compliance with federal, state, local, insurance and internal safety requirements.
  • Effectively interact with all internal functional job levels and with external agencies and resources in order to maximize the effectiveness of the safety improvement process.
  • Maintain and increase professional knowledge and expertise related to the fields of environmental protection, occupational health, and industrial safety through annual professional development.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Travel: As needed to support other plants within the organization. To perform peer to peer site assessments or additional EHS support if available upon request. Some travel may also be necessary for continuous education opportunities and trainings.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma required. BS degree in EHS/Occupational Safety or related field preferred or a combination of related training, education and experience.
  • Current or able to qualify for CPR/First Aid/BBP certifications. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other safety certification preferred. Six Sigma certification preferred (green or black belt).
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a safety role in a manufacturing facility (preferably textiles or roll goods). Proven track record of safety accomplishments.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA laws, standards and regulations governing manufacturing sites (29 CFR 1910).
  • Knowledge of permitting procedures and documentation required by governing agencies.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing industry (non-woven or textile-related preferred).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of standard office machines and computer software (including Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, Microsoft Project).

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposure to weather conditions prevalent at the time; dust; heat; humidity, odors.
  • Noise level in the work environment varies and hearing protection is required in some work areas.
  • Frequent exposer to extremely high-speed machinery with open inward turning rolls, extremely hot surface areas and moving lift truck traffic.

 

EFFORT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent need to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects or tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear, smell.
  • Ability to periodically lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequent climbing up to three levels above floor level
