The Process Engineering Manager will research, plan, and design mechanical products and systems, direct and coordinate activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical products and systems.

 

Responsibilities

SAFETY

  • Establish and lead plant safety objectives. Ensure compliance to all safety policies and procedures. Work with Joint Health and Safety Committee, Health and Safety Coordinator and Manager of Human Resources in ensuring safety of the plant and its employees.

QUALITY

  • Maintain ISO compliant process and quality records. The Quality Control Supervisor under the Process Engineering Manager’s supervision leads this job function.
  • Establish and maintain a process and quality assurance audit function to ensure compliance with standards and specifications. Develop corrective action plans and systems. Internal Audit, Quality Steering Team, Leadership Team are part of this job responsibility.

LEADERSHIP

  • Provide direction, coaching, and training for all process team members and ensure they work safely. Monthly Technical Meeting provides a platform for team members to raise issues, talk about work activities and safety, plant wide.
  • Lead operational excellence for the site. Involved in Green Belt and Black Belt Projects.
  • Supervise in-house and/or contract employees doing maintenance or project work.
  • Supervise and lead project team.

PROCESS DEVELOPMENT/TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Utilize process control methodology (Six Sigma, SPC, Designed Experiments, etc.) to solve problems and improve process control and capability.
  • Serve as a resource on plant technologies, control systems, and raw materials (resin, concentrates, production supplies, film, non-woven and additives). Initiate and assist with implementation of process control improvements using DMAIC planning process.
  • Plan and direct the efforts of the process engineers in investigating and resolving manufacturing or quality issues, making recommendations for preventive action, optimizing current products and processes and commercializing new products.
  • Serve as a resource on process control tools such as FMEA's, Change Management, Designed Experiments, Six Sigma, etc.
  • Develop and maintain systems including performance measurements, failure costs, control systems, quality standards, product and process capability for all raw materials and finished products.

PROJECTS

  • Assist in the preparation of capital expenditure requests to improve existing operations, increase efficiencies, improve product quality or commercialize new technologies.
  • Lead and support the effective implementation of investment projects approved for capacity or facility expansion and upgrades.

SALES AND MARKETING SUPPORT

  • Work closely with Customers, Marketing, Development and Manufacturing to deliver new products to the market. Interface with multiple functions and customers to resolve problems, respond to customer complaints, develop corrective actions, develop new products, and improve existing processes.
  • Responsible for Mill Trial planning and execution.
  • Direct efforts in gaining and maintaining knowledge of trends in the industry that lead to improvements in product quality, product consistency, process efficiency or cost reductions.
  • Define process specifications, which include machinery set-ups, operating conditions, set points, tolerances, processing procedures and packaging specifications, based on a strong understanding of customer requirements.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree
  • 5 to 7 years of work experience in the Manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • PEO License (Professional Engineers Ontario) preferred.
  • PMP or Project Management experience is considered an asset.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Fluent in the English language.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Computer literacy includes spreadsheet, word processing, graphing, and CAD applications.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Travel as required, to successfully complete assigned tasks. The candidate must be willing to travel and eligible to traverse borders.
