The Trade Compliance Manager, Americas is responsible for ensuring compliance with domestic and international shipping requirements, customs regulations and trade laws for Magnera’s business in North and South America. This position will have 1-2 direct reports.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Company’s compliance with all international laws and reguations regarding global trade for the Americas business
  • Engage and review contracts for customs agents/brokers for imports and exports
  • Oversee and approve payment to appropriate customs agents/brokers
  • Ensure establishment of required powers of attorney with engaged customs agents
  • Maintain valid US customs bonds needed for transport and delivery
  • Determine origin of goods and ensure the correct usage
  • Screen business partners and goods for sanctions / embargoes
  • Determine export control codes (export commodity control number (ECCN) or EAR99)
  • Determine export jurisdiction/classification and customs import classification of products/technology and obtain export/import permits/authorizations
  • Provide support to internal stakeholders and manage any free trade agreements relating to the Americas to include soliciting suppliers, determining preference, and issuing certificates, as needed.
  • Provide training and support for the on-site customs champions
  • Perform periodic customs and trade audits at the Company’s sites
  • Manage and support sites for any external customs audits or investigations performed by government authorities
  • Perform spot checks on import and export notes / proofs
  • Engage with customer service, procurement, vendors, customers, brokers, freight forwarders and other business partners to resolve trade compliance issues
  • Draft, review and keep updated all internal customs and trade policies, processes and procedutes
  • Collaborate with the Trade Compliance Manager, EMEIA/APAC to ensure consistence messaging and practices for the entire Magnera business
  • Provide promptly trade compliance information and assistance to the Americas business
  • Ensure maintenance of required records for imports and exports
  • Maintain awareness of changing export and import control laws and regulations and provide analysis regarding applicability and impace to the Company’s business
  • Maintain a professional attitude and demeanor at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience

5+ years of experience working in trade compliance in the Americas for a multi-national business. Prior management experience preferred.

 

Skills

Strong comprehension of trade compliance laws and regulations in the Americas (primarily North America) required. Additional familiarity with trade compliance laws and regulations in South America is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook) and familiarity and comfort maintaining electronic databases and conducting research on the internet. Basic understanding of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to provide clear explanations on complex trade issues. Excellent organization and multitasking skills. High attention to detail. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. SAP experience a plus.

 

Education

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university required with preference to the following courses of study: business/administration, supply chain management, logistics, international trade, international business,.management, finance/accounting or engineering.

 

Travel approximately 20%.
