Responsible, together with the Regional EHS Director and Corporate Environmental Systems Manager, for defining regional policies and procedures related to environmental and sustainability practices within the EMEIA region, in alignment with European regulatory frameworks and Corporate guidelines. Ensures that all sites strictly follow compliance programs, written policies, and applicable regulations to meet local requirements. Consistently promotes environmental and sustainability practices at all levels of the organization to support and ensure compliance.

Responsibilities

  1. Define the regional strategy, policies, procedures, guidelines, standards, good practices, compliance programs and frameworks related with environmental and sustain topics.
  2. Lead the implementation of all the policies and compliance programs in order to increase the environmental knowledge and increase awareness in the sites and across the organization by challenging EHS management team, plant directors and leadership team.
  3. Identify new environmental and sustain topics across de region according new regulations, expectations of the company and customer’s demands to implement in advance the requirements needed and making the necessary resources available.
  4. Communicate environmental and sustain issues and assist in the resolution of them according with the regulations and the best practices available. Assist sites in problem solving.
  5. Provide visibility of environmental progress, performance, and issues to the leadership team.
  6. Evaluate performance against compliance goals and provide coaching, guidance and feedback to multiple levels of leadership on how to improve environment and sustain results. Maintain and track performance and environmental and sustain metrics for all sites using digital database.
  7. Organize environmental audits and inspections to identify deviations and continuous improvement. Create a database with environmental information per site in order to identify risks and opportunities.
  8. Support the introduction of new products, equipment or systems from the environmental perspective and ensuring that all the environmental and sustain topics has been considered (water, waste, air pollution, energy consumption, OCS, ERP, etc.)
  9. Proposes improvement actions, capex needed or environmental projects to fulfill legal requirements or improve current conditions of our facilities.
  10. Support the organization of environmental emergency preparedness and response activities. Participate in defining training requirements for plant personnel.
  11. Assist sites with continual development of compliance assurance programs, written policies and programs, and additional tools to help sites with no dedicated EHS resources to manage local compliance requirements.
  12. Coordinates incident investigations across de region related with environmental impacts, and non-conformances, and monitor closure of corrective actions.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree or Engineering degree in Environmental Science, Science degree in Biology or Chemistry with a Master's degree in environment.
  2. Certification related with waste, waste water and air pollution.
  3. 10 years on the job experience in the field of environment, in a leadership/managerial role.
  4. Fluent in English
  5. Experience with environmental regulations in the European Union and be willing to learn about the local regulations in the different countries. Especially good knowledge and experience about general European framework regulations related with waste, waste water, air pollution, extended producer responsibility and microplastics.
  6. Knowledge and experience implementing sustainability ISO in the industry, specially the standards related with an environmental management system, energy management system, carbon footprint and GHG and life cycle assessment.
  7. Experience implementing a program for the zero-pellet loss to the environment and specific action plans to improve the risk situations. Knowledge related with the OCS Europe certification scheme.
  8. Experience with the environmental best available techniques in order to reduce the environmental impact using specific technologies in different sectors like waste water treatment plants, waste gas treatments, hazardous waste generation/management and energy efficiency.
  9. Ability to understand production processes with a global view in order to identify the main environmental impacts and potential solutions strategies. Define KPIs for a correct follow up of the environmental compliance and sustainability of the organization.
  10. Experience working in industrial environments and engineering knowledge about production processes.
  11. Ability with the implementation of environmental emergency preparedness and response activities.
  12. Written and oral communication skills are essential along with the ability to interact at different levels of the organization. Presents ideas/facts clearly and concisely in oral and written formats. Can effectively deliver a speech, presentation or other communication to the leadership team.
  13. Ability to identify key plant issues, develop a workable solution from data and working with others, sells his/her solution and implements the solution.
  14. High level of self-management and motivation to continuously improve the process, people, equipment, raw materials and self. Can adapt and transfer new methods and ideas to situations to maximize positive results.
