Under occasional supervision, is responsible for engaging in electrical maintenance activities for all plant equipment, supply utilities, building and grounds. Is also responsible for troubleshooting machinery problems and continuously monitoring facilities and production equipment as part of a Total Productive Maintenance plan. Clearly understands and demonstrates a proactive maintenance approach and best maintenance practices. Reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. This position is expected to have a significant impact on improvements in Run Time Efficiency. The person in this position will constantly drive to minimize overall maintenance costs. This person will need the ability to work in a team setting or independently on projects that will ensure the division reaches its goals. The Automation Specialist’s tasks & responsibilities are as follows:                             

Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs all work in compliance with all EH&S standards and company procedures/policies.
  • Always ensures safe installations and operations through proper design, protection systems, procedures, and training. Supervision of Lockout/tag out procedures.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs problems with production and facilities equipment.
  • Develops Total Productive Maintenance (TPM = Predictive, Statistical Predictive, Preventive, Corrective maintenance activities) plans for all plant and facilities equipment.
  • Coordinates plant electrical maintenance related to a Total Productive Maintenance program.
  • Attend daily morning meetings to assist in identifying the priorities for the day.
  • Complete continuous improvement projects to increase safety, quality, uptime, and cost.
  • Progress through outside training to continually develop electrical, electronic, and PLC knowledge.
  • Provides training to technicians in maintenance activities associated with Total Productive Maintenance practices.
  • Assist in Root Cause Analysis when involved in the associated failure.
  • Coordinates vendor involvement for assistance with equipment.
  • Reviews work orders with resources as they are received, asks for clarification, and confers with the requestor for additional clarification when needed.
  • Originates, processes, prioritizes, and/or completes work orders as needed.
  • Orders parts involved in repair and maintenance with assistance from the maintenance team.
  • Serves as a key contributor during preventive maintenance shutdowns and performs necessary maintenance tasks as required.
  • Documents all modifications made to equipment during repairs.
  • Familiarizes self with new equipment and trains personnel.
  • Stays informed of operational activities and process changes which may affect the normal operation of the equipment.
  • Participates in large installations and equipment modification projects.
  • Maintains a team effort attitude and approach.
  • Monitors plant and equipment to ensure optimal operation and reduction of planned and unplanned downtime.
  • Corrects any issues relating to I/E design of plant equipment.         

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

A 2-year electrical/electronic degree and at least 5 years of experience working as a maintenance technician with industrial equipment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES

 

Must have thorough knowledge of electrical and mechanical equipment. Electro-Mechanical troubleshooting skills are a must.  Good electrical and mechanical design capabilities and strong computer skills are desired. Strong technical communication skills are essential. Must be able to remain flexible while on call. Must be able to operate various tools and equipment related to the job as well as office equipment such as a personal computer. Must be capable of working independently and develop programs as necessary without direct instruction from management.   

 

  • Knowledge of Electricity, in low voltage and medium voltage installations (480, 277-, 220-, 110-, and 24-volt circuits).
  • Good knowledge of local electrical code and standards.
  • Electrical safety/NFPA 70E Knowledge.
  • Motors, PLC, Drives Experience.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic knowledge.
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLC).
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and process flow diagrams.
