Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Manager will review plans, directs and coordinates the maintenance activities of the plant, including establishing and carrying out a preventative maintenance program and the corrective maintenance of all production and service equipment, buildings and grounds. 

Plans, specifies and recommends any equipment or facilities revisions or modifications. Initiates and directs capital projects.  Writes capital funding requests as required, including costs and technical specifications. Accurately records and reports activities and results. Coordinates all plant activities that involve the Division Engineering Group. Works with production units to maintain and improve plant efficiency, productivity, and processes, as well as product quality. Specify and directs activities of outside contractors and vendors. 

 

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages overall maintenance activities
  • Plans and coordinates all phases of maintenance operations, keeping plant operations running smooth.
  • Maintains reports for equipment safety, efficiency, productivity and other reports pertaining to the maintenance or engineering of the plant. 
  • Manage any reports of files required by various government or environmental regulatory agencies.
  • Develops and implements various inspection and preventative maintenance schedules to minimize breakdown. Coordinates shut down schedules with production Unit Managers for periodic inspection and review of equipment.
  • Control plant maintenance costs within budgeted levels of spending, analyze the monthly budget reports for areas of nonconformance and potential cost reduction.
  • Analyze monthly budget, manpower and equipment utilization reports to improve productivity and efficiency and to reduce costs.
  • Directs equipment or facilities modifications or revisions.
  • Plans modifications to improve existing equipment, utilizing Clopay or outside resources appropriately.
  • Originate and manage capital projects for the plant from beginning through completion. Coordinate efforts with Division Engineering as well as the accounting, finance, and legal departments of Clopay as needed.
  • Direct the activities of Division Engineering personnel on in-plant projects.
  • Coordinate the release of projects from engineering to production personnel.
  • Assist Division Engineering, other division plants, or other departments on outside projects.
  • Plans and directs the process engineering operations of the entire Nashville site.
  • Manages the assigned process engineers in investigating and resolving manufacturing issues, making recommendations for preventive action, optimizing current products and processes and commercializing new products.
  • Supports the Production Teams.    
  • Implements and maintains systems to allow team members to identify and correct equipment problems in an expedient manner.
  • Provide training and instruction to team members on proper maintenance procedures for all equipment in the plant.
  • Provide training and instruction to team members on proper operating and maintenance procedures for new equipment in the plant.
  • Specifies and directs activities of outside vendors and contractors
  • Writes specifications for and selects outside contractors on an as needed basis. Directs activities of outside contractors on in-plant projects.
  • Oversees selection of and monitors outside vendors to aid in controlling costs and quality of parts and services.
  • Manages maintenance activities of in-house personnel.
  • Provides training on the proper maintenance procedure for all equipment to team members.
  • Determines standards of performance and specific goals for all team members as they apply to maintenance activities. Provides written and timely appraisals of team member’s progress as it applies to maintenance activities.
  • Plans work schedules for all in-house maintenance activities.
  • Performs similar and related duties as required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Education: A related Engineering degree such as electrical/mechanical engineering/technology; driver license “B”  
  • Experience: A minimum of four years of engineering/maintenance related experience in a manufacturing environment. Preferably involving plastics and web handling type equipment.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Must be familiar with the operation of plastic processing equipment to include:  extruders, blenders, treaters, winders, printing lines, post embossing lines, bag making units etc.  Must be familiar with auxiliary facilities like chillers, compressed air supply, heating etc., Must be familiar with technical software (PLCs, drives, CAD etc.) and measurement equipment (oscilloscope, Geiger counter, etc.) Must also be familiar with office equipment to include computers, copiers and fax machine.  
  • Internal: This position regularly interacts with all levels of hourly personnel, support staff and management.  He/she may periodically interact with corporate personnel from Customer Service, Corporate Engineering, and Management.  
  • External: This position will also periodically interact with Customer Representatives on site and at the customer’s location. He/she will interact with visitors, vendors, suppliers, public officers, technical inspectors and employees from other locations.
