JOB SUMMARY:
The Laboratory Technician will support the quality control auditing measurement and evaluation of raw, finished, or in-process materials for conformance to the Company/customer requirements using laboratory testing methods. Also, interpretation and communication of test results to operations, and general housekeeping of laboratory area to ensure a safe, orderly, and clean environment.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Advancement within the Laboratory Technicians job classification is based upon the criteria set forth in the advancement procedures. Laboratory Technicians are responsible for performing the following duties:
· Work in a safe and efficient manner.
· Perform all necessary testing of raw materials, in-process, & finished product per instructions on lab data report sheets in a timely manner in conjunction with production of finished product. Also evaluate films and laminate visually for conformance to requirements.
· Interpret testing results ensuring precision and accuracy and analyze quality windows control charts for trends or out of control situations. Work closely with operations and process technicians to achieve property targets using statistical process control techniques.
· Communicate out of specification or out of control situations to team leaders, line leaders, and/or process technicians for necessary corrective actions or process adjustments. Follow critical inspection path procedures performing any necessary re-tests for out of specification or out of control data to ensure accuracy of data.
· Complete lab data sheets accurately and legibly for retention as a quality record.
· Store, identify, retrieve (when required), and discard production retains per customer/Company retention requirements and procedures.
· Document line conditions (when applicable) and enter into quality windows.
· Understand and follow the Quality Policy.
· Maintain a clean & orderly work environment by cleaning floors, test machine surfaces, empty trash cans, etc.
· Work cooperatively with others in a self-directing team environment.
· Other duties and special testing as required.
· Perform all duties referenced above.
· Review laboratory testing requirements each day. Work with team supervisors as needed to procure additional testing resources for increased testing demand when required.
· Monitor and ensure the quality & integrity of testing, sampling, & paperwork performed on shift against requirements, including follow up, retesting and isolation of nonconforming materials.
· Train and qualify yearly to all written Company, customer, or National Standard test methods required by our customer and product requirements.
· Qualify and re-qualify additional lab team members on shift, vacation relief, etc. yearly on all written Company, customer, or National Standard test methods required by our customer and product requirements.
· Assists QAG in monitoring stocking levels of lab supplies to ensure adequate supply.
· Ensure that sample retain procedures are being followed per requirements.
· Provides input to the Quality Supervisor or Manager on improved productivity and quality of activities within the lab.
· Demonstrate leadership and professionalism daily on shift
· Provide feedback and input to Team Supervisor for performance evaluations.
· Other duties as required.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
· Education: High School Diploma or GED
· Experience: Previous manufacturing experience preferred.

COMPETENCIES:
· Knowledge of and skills in the use of plant machinery and office machines (computer and copier) and business procedures. Employee must have a current Company forklift operator’s license.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Job functions will be performed in the production facility, laboratory, and in and around the office areas.
EFFORT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Work is performed in a plant environment with frequent contact with others. Requires prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping and stretching, manual dexterity, the ability to distinguish letters, occasional lifting, and the use of office equipment. Demonstration of leadership ability and an understanding of the basics of extrusion and/or conversion
